Pieces depict the diversity of Island Writers’ Network members and offer an assortment of fiction, memoir, humor, and poetry. In addition to literary works, Hilton Headings contains eight pages of color photographs of the Lowcountry and its flora and fauna. The 2012 Savannah Children’s Book Festival was held November 10, 2012, in Forsyth Park in
Savannah. The festival was presented by Live Oak Public Libraries and the City of Savannah. The
ninth annual festival celebrated the joy of reading, the power of the written word, and the magic
of storytelling with children’s book authors and illustrators from around the country.

and in Trustees Theater. Featured authors included Dave Barry, David Baldacci, Al Gore, James
Patterson, and Hoda Kotb, along with many other national and local authors. Grammy award
winning Gregg Allman also attended. His memoir My Cross to Bear made Publishers Weekly’s Best
Nonfiction Books of 2012.

were reminded to refer to the excellent
advice offered by Al Chaput at a previous
meeting: "The First 500 Words."
